auDA, the body that manages Australia's domain name system, has invited people to submit proposals for the creation of new 2LDs in the .au domain space. Applications close 30 November 2009.

 

Assessment criteria

auDA will evaluate 2LD submissions against the following principles:

 

• Public Interest - any new 2LD must be in the public interest. Proposals that serve one parties interest only will not be considered;
• The proposer will not receive any credit for proposing the 2LD;
• Submissions will be subject to public consultation. auDA's usual consultation process will apply by allowing the internet community and the wider community to have their say;
• All submissions will be evaluated against set criteria.

 

Example 2LD's

auDA created community community geographic 2LDs in 2006 - for example bribieislandnorth.qld.au. These domain names are available for registration by community organisations such as Associations, Cooperatives and Counsels.
